Negotiation

There is no such thing as a ready-made contract. Each one is written to meet the special needs of the members it protects. The method of reaching an agreement with the company works like this:

The Negotiating Committee consists of five (5) members. The Business Manager, and President, by virtue of office shall be members of this Committee. Three (3) shall be elected from the general membership at regular election times. All shall be considered as officers. The Business Manager shall serve as Chairman.

Recommendations are made at a special called union meeting by the membership. These recommendations then are discussed and approved. When in final form the recommendations then are forwarded to the company and the process of “collective bargaining” begins.

The term “collective bargaining” or “negotiations” refers to the meetings between the employers and your union committee which are for the purpose of talking over the requests of the members an/or employer. The process implies that both sides must “give and take” fairly until a “bargain” or “agreement” is reached:

The law requires the company to meet in good faith with the certified union and the committee of workers.
